Intern-Spotlight-Alina-and-Nicola

As we carry on our pursuit in showcasing the wonderful interns, let us introduce Alina and Nicola who joined us over the summer period, gaining hands-on project management experience. Continue reading below to hear about their experiences on the Protolan team.

Alina Naz, Project Management Intern

“In the two months of my internship, I got to work on the documentation side of projects which involved document logging, waste calculation, budgeting for equipment, and preparing quotations.

Most importantly, I learned about the importance of following hygiene specifications for each piece of equipment in the food industry by specifying requirements in documents and completing an online course.

I found the environment at Protolan very friendly and welcoming to newcomers. In the first few weeks, people contacted me to see how I was doing and guided me. It was challenging to work online in a new place without getting to meet everyone face to face because of the Coronavirus pandemic, but it all worked out in the end.”

Nicola Raimondo, Project Management Intern

“I found the internship to be a great opportunity to dive into project management and to learn more about large food manufacturers.

I found the team to be extremely helpful and friendly, Protolan definitely is a great work environment and I have enjoyed meeting almost everyone on Protolan Day!

I have improved my team working and communication skills as I found myself writing many emails and attending many virtual meetings. I have also had insights into how large manufacturing and packaging lines work and various other procedures and pieces of equipment in large food factories.

The biggest challenge to overcome for me has certainly been understanding what is going on in the particular project I have just jumped into as the projects have already started before, however, again, the team has always been helpful in helping me out understanding things by talking through things while allowing me to find things out on my own.

I would definitely recommend applying for Protolan’s summer internships to all those students who are keen to learn more about the food industry, engineering, and project management!”
