Meet-Our-Team-Jess-Donk

Jess previously spent a year placement with us from 2016 to 2017. After graduating from Nottingham University with a Master’s in Chemical and Environmental Engineering, she returned to Protolan and is now a full-time Project Engineering Manager. Have a read of her view on working within the Protolan team.

So, Jess why Protolan?

“Everyone on the team comes from completely different backgrounds with different experiences, this makes Protolan a diverse and welcoming place to work”.

And what do you enjoy most about this role?

“Definitely the variety. Every project presents new challenges and I feel I’m constantly learning – which I love! I also enjoy getting to know different clients and building new relationships. My favourite part of a project is the installation phase, seeing all the months of hard work come together and take shape, fulfilling the client brief.”.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone just entering the industry?

“Things can change so quickly on projects, and you must be prepared to tackle them head-on, that’s why it is important to keep an adaptable and open mind with a willingness to always learn”.

The 23rd of June marked International Women in Engineering Day, what does this mean to you?

“It’s important to celebrate engineering careers and encourage young women in pursuing jobs within STEM (sciencetechnologyengineering, and maths), I love being an engineer and the variety of challenges it brings every day. The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) is a great charity built on a network of women engineers offering support and inspiration in all areas of the engineering industry. Events such as this are vital in raising awareness of our presence. ” Find more about the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) here.

Lastly, you lead the 6-weekly sustainability meetings within Protolan, tell us more…

“We want to make small changes in our day-to-day practices internally and the sustainability meetings are a great way to do this by bringing the team together to share ideas and implement changes. It’s great that Protolan has given me the opportunity to combine my passion for implementing sustainable change alongside my engineering management role ”.

We are passionate about developing new talent and are constantly looking for the next generation of talent to keep Protolan at its best. Contact us if you would like to discuss a career in Food and Drink manufacturing.
