Morrisons Manufacturing Expansion
Morrisons is the second largest fresh food manufacturer in the country, employing over 7,000 people, and a central part of its differentiation from its competitors is its food manufacturing facilities.
The Project
Morrison acquired a 105,000 sq ft meat processing facility in Winsford, Cheshire from Vion UK Ltd. The acquisition gave Morrisons even greater capacity as it continues to grow and has greater control over the quality of the meat products sold in store. To ensure a successful transition Morrison needed to guarantee a smooth acquisition and develop the site to fit desired outputs.The Challenge
Protolan were engaged to ensure a smooth acquisition process and deliver a core manufacturing process. The site is a centralised fresh pork and lamb retail packing plant which had capacity to expand into beef products and increase overall production. To ensure maximum efficiency the Winsford lines were utilised, enhanced by specific lines transferred from another Morrisons facility. The project included capacity planning for key lines including burger, mince and steak and offal.Delivering Success
